Publishing Done Right

Carolina House Publishing operates on a revenue-sharing model, not a pay-to-play structure. The majority of our income comes from the backend through revenue share after expenses, similar to how traditional publishers have always operated, except we’ve eliminated the massive overhead and corporate bureaucracy that makes traditional publishing so slow and expensive.

This means everything we do depends on your success. If your book does well and our marketing training works for you, we make money together. If your book doesn’t succeed for any reason, we don’t make a profit. This alignment of interests is fundamental to how we operate. We succeed when you succeed, and we fail when you fail. That’s exactly how a publisher-author relationship should work.

Two Ways to Work With Us

You can work with us as a client purchasing à la carte services like editing, cover design, or marketing consultation. Or you can submit your manuscript to be selected as an official Carolina House Author through our publishing agreement. Both paths provide access to professional services at prices that actually make sense for your budget, but the Carolina House Author path is where our partnership truly delivers transformational value.

Who We’re Looking For

Our ideal authors are writing more than one book. Whether you’re developing a series or creating a related set of non-fiction books, we want to build a long-term partnership that grows with you. Multi-book authors have greater opportunities to build audiences, increase visibility, and generate sustainable income. That’s the kind of career we want to help you create. We do accept some single book projects, but we’re most excited about working with authors who are building real, lasting careers.

What Carolina House Authors Receive

When we publish your book, we handle the technical challenges that slow most authors down. Formatting, cover design, compelling book blurbs, advertising setup, and marketing support are all included. But what we do that is truly unique is offer our comprehensive book marketing training programs absolutely free to our authors.

This is where we separate ourselves from everyone else in the industry. Other publishing houses want to maximize their profits. Vanity publishers are even worse, bleeding authors dry with fee after fee, service after service, charging thousands upfront whether your book succeeds or fails. We take the opposite approach. We want to unburden you of the technical obstacles that hold you back, then teach you the most difficult and most valuable skill of all: marketing.

Getting your first reviews, earning those first sales, growing and scaling your sales with advertising, mastering social media marketing for authors – it all takes knowledge and skill. We give you the knowledge through comprehensive training so you can develop the skill through your own experience and success.

The Traditional Publishing Problem

Traditional publishers might plan out your marketing, but you’re still the one doing the real work. You’re still the one going to book signings, building your audience, and promoting your books. Yet traditional publishers typically take eighty-five to ninety percent of the gross revenue from book sales, leaving authors with standard royalty rates of ten to fifteen percent for hardcovers and seven and a half percent for paperbacks.

We flip that script completely. We only take fifteen to twenty-five percent based on our agreement and the services we provide when you sign. You keep the majority of what your books earn because you’re doing the majority of the work to sell them. We just make sure you know how to do that work effectively.

The Self-Publishing Option

If you want to try self-publishing and just need our assistance with book formatting, editing, ad design, cover design, and our basic services, that works too. You can purchase these services à la carte and even access some of our courses for a fee. Some courses are reserved exclusively for our published authors at this time, but we offer plenty of valuable training options for self-published authors who want to improve their craft and their business.
